    Vehicle Taxation


    When taxing a vehicle you will require one of two forms:

    Renewal of Tax


    Computerised Reminder

    RF100B

    This form may come to you by post about two weeks before your tax is due for renewal. If you get this form you can use the prepaid envelope which comes with your application to post it to the Tax Office.
    Use this form when:
    There has been no change in any particulars relating to the vehicle
    You are taxing prior to or during the month in which your tax is due.

    Manual Tax Renewal Form RF100A

    If you do not receive the computerised form you can tax your vehicle using the RF100A (manual tax renewal form) - see below. If your tax has lapsed for a month or more, you are required to pay arrears and complete the form RF100A.
    Renewal if tax is overdue Motor Tax Manual Renewal Form RF100A If you do not receive the RF100B above or if arrears of tax are payable you should use this form. An Irish version of this application form is available from the Motor Tax Office. Use this form if:

    You did not receive a computerised renewal form (RF100B)
    If your name or address has changed since you last taxed the vehicle.
    Your tax is a month or more overdue.

    Note: If your tax is a month or more overdue, but the vehicle was off the road, since the renewal date, you are not liable for arrears of tax. However, you will need to complete the Non-Use Period section of the form and have it witnessed at a Garda Station.

    The following should accompany both RF100A and RF100B when making an application:
    Vehicle Licensing Certificate
    Current certificate of insurance
    National Car Test Certificate (if applicable)
    Correct fee for the period you wish to tax it for.

    RF100 First Motor tax Application


    If your vehicle is new, you will need a (RF100). This is available from the motor dealer or person from whom you bought your vehicle. When applying for first your motor tax, you must present the following documents at your local Motor Taxation Office:
    Form RF100
    Vehicle Registration Certificate
    Current Certificate of Insurance issued in Ireland
    Correct fee
